The adaption of this prayer with specific breathing sequences is taken from Wendy Palmers book and focuses in on using the Buddhist concept of tonglen whereby you breathe in negative energy/qualities and breathe out positive energy/quality. This has been combined with this prayer sequence, and when breathing out the positive elements, imagine that the positive energy or light radiates outwards in all directions.

The Prayer of St Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace,

Where there is hatred, (inhale)

Let me sow love, (exhale)

Where there is injury, (inhale)

Pardon, (exhale)

Where there is doubt, (inhale)

Faith, (exhale)

Where there is despair, (inhale)

Hope, (exhale)

Where there is darkness, (inhale)

Light, (exhale)

Where there is sadness, (inhale)

Joy, (exhale)

O Divine Master,

Grant that I may not,

So much seek to be consoled, (inhale)

As to console, (exhale)

To be understood, (inhale)

As to understand, (exhale)

To be loved, (inhale)

As to love, (exhale),,,(inhale)

For it is in giving, (exhale)

That we receive, (inhale)

It is in pardoning, (exhale)

That we are pardoned, (inhale)

And it is in dying, (exhale)

That we are born,  (inhale)

To Eternal Life. (Exhale)
